Proper pruning is crucial to developing trees with strong structure and
attractive form. Removing branches that are weak, diseased, insect-
infested or dead not only prolongs the life of your trees but enhances
their natural beauty and health.
Poteet Tree Service abides strictly by all ANSI A300 pruning
standards. As an Accredited TCIA Tree Company, we are required to
continually adhere to this high set of standards. That means our work
performance will always satisfy the accepted industry practices for
tree care maintenance operations.
The purpose of pruning should be established prior to beginning any
pruning operation. A300 Pruning standards recognize four basic pruning types:
Clean
Selective pruning to remove one or more of the following parts: dead, diseased, and/or broken
branches.
Thin
Selective pruning to reduce density of live branches.
Raise
Selective pruning to provide vertical clearance.
Reduce
Selective pruning to decrease height and/or spread (consideration must be given to the ability of a
species to tolerate this type of pruning).
Specialty pruning is also recognized and consists of:
Espalier
The combination of pruning, supporting, and training branches to orient a plant in one plane.
Pollarding
The maintenance of a tree by making inter-nodal cuts to reduce the size of a young tree, followed by
the annual removal of shoot growth at its point of origin.
Restoration
Selective pruning to improve the structure, form and appearnace of trees that have been severely
headed, vandalized, or damaged.
Vista Pruning
Selective pruning to allow a specific view.
Pruning and Topping are very different practices. Topping or "rounding over" is mistakenly believed to
control the height of a tree. However, the new stems will soon grow to be the same height as the tree is
genetically programmed to be. But the new stems will be numerous and crowded and weakly attached at
the point of topping. Many of these will die back and fall off creating an extremely dangerous threat to
people, animals and property.
Topping can be done quickly by untrained workers, and is used by unscrupulous tree service companies to
make a quick buck without regard to harming the tree or potential danger to the customer and property.
Topping or Lion's Tailing are not acceptable pruning practices according to the Tree Care Industry
Association standards.

Tree Removal
Poteet Tree Service is the best when it comes to removal.
There is no tree we cannot remove!
Proper tree removal requires a thorough knowledge of rigging,
climbing, physics, and tree biology in order to ensure a good
outcome.
Poteet Tree Service utilizes the most advanced climbing and
rigging techniques that are taught and used in the industry. We
require over 150 hours of training per year, and our employees have attended the most advanced training
courses available.
When removing a tree, it is also important to know your gear and hardware. Poteet Tree Service has a
certified rope splicer on staff, as well as a gear inspector from the 2006 International Climbing
Championship. We also employ an expert in the field of rigging that can be seen lecturing and giving
practical demonstrations all over the country.
Stump Grinding
Why have your stump ground? Stump grinding is a good idea
for several reasons:
* - Stumps are unsightly.
* - They are a tripping hazard.
* - Stumps in your yard keep you from completing
landscaping plans.
* - Stumps can sprout out for years and create an unpleasant
mess.
Some companies that do stump grinding do only that, “just grind stumps”. But Poteet Tree Service goes
way beyond that. We grind your stump and then we clean up the grindings so you are not left with a giant
mess that you might have to pay as much as several hundred dollars to clean up.
We also will not leave you with a giant hole in your yard. When we leave, you will be ready to plant
grass, or install other types of landscaping. However, kind in mind that we do not recommend planting
another tree in the same hole for 1-2 years.
Create-a-Park
Poteet Tree Service is the only tree company that offers this
unique and creative tree service. Our team of experts can turn
your bushy backyard into a beautiful park setting.
For ten years, our staff has installed many outdoor fixtures
including zip-lines, tree-mounted swing sets, ropes courses and
others. We can also make rustic outdoor furniture from the trees
we have removed.

Risk Assessment

Poteet Tree Service provides Risk Assessments by certified
arborists that identify any problems your trees might have that could
lead to personal injury or liability.
We have a saying at Poteet Tree Service, “Less is MORE”.
Sometimes when it comes to having healthy trees, this saying is
true!
Poteet Tree Service provides thorough and professional lot
clearing services. First, we visit your property during the
planning process and help you select the best trees to
leave in your landscaping. Then we carefully remove the
other trees without harming the good ones.
All of the limbs and tree tops are chipped. We haul our
chips to a recycling center to be turned into mulch. Any
stumps that are left are ground up to leave a perfect site for
your new plans.
Studies show that 40-70 percent of trees with their critical
root zone in a construction impacted area will be terminal
without preventative care. In addition to clearing lots,
Poteet Tree Service helps you with the care of your trees
during the construction process.
Storm Emergency
Poteet Tree Service is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. Depending on the area, we can have one of our
Arborists to your storm damaged property within one
hour.
We will gladly assist you with any insurance claims that
you may need to file. Our arborists have handled over
